Paw Services

   • The Adoption Center provides adoption counseling as well
      as a “get acquainted” area.

   •  All animals adopted from ACS are sterilized, vaccinated
and microchipped. Pets under the age of four months will
need to be brought back to receive their rabies shots. This
is included in their adoption fee.

Did you know...

Last year, we adopted out more than 2,300 dogs and cats which assisted in decreasing the euthanasia rate for the year by 10%.

Now that you're ready for adoption, here's what you need to do:

1.  Bring a leash and collar and/or pet carrier by our adoption center
      or search online.
2.  Complete the adoption paperwork as well as the pet profile.
3.  Spend some time with the animal you are interested in.
4.  Ask the adoption counselors questions.
5.  Make a final decision about the right pet for your family
6.  Adopters are obligated by contract to take their new pet to their veterinarian within 24 hours of adoption for a      physical exam

Fees:
  • $81 Flat fee for dogs; $29 for cats

  • Fee includes:
  • Spay/neuter
  • City license (in the form of a microchip)
  • Vaccinations for distemper, hepatitis, para-influenza, parvo virus, rabies, de-worming
  • Heartworm testing/feline leukemia testing (if over 4 months of age)
  • If your adopted pet is less than three months old, you will have to return at a scheduled time so that your pet can receive its initial rabies vaccination.

    ACS Post Adoption Veterinary Care

Animal Care Services of San Antonio allows adopters to return for an evaluation of their pet’s health if it shows signs of illness within the first ten(10) days of ownership.

This program is designed to treat minor illnesses that require minimal treatment and cost.  It is not a substitution for the adopter’s contractual obligation to take their newly adopted pet to their veterinarian for a total physical. Animal Care Services strongly encourages ALL pet owners to establish a relationship with veterinarian for the sake of their pet’s health.

To schedule an appointment for your pet, please call 207-6652.

    Adoption Events

Thousands of animals enter the shelter throughout the year that qualify for the adoption program. To give all of these pets an opportunity to be adopted into a ‘forever home,’ Animal Care Services hosts a series of pet adoption special events. The goal is to reduce the number of animals that are euthanized due to overcrowded conditions. Click on the events link above for dates, times and locations.
